As an elopement and wedding photographer in the beautiful Upper Peninsula of Michigan, I have the privilege of capturing countless love stories. Each engagement session is unique and filled with moments that tell a story. For instance, John and Kayla’s engagement session was one of those unforgettable experiences that I am thrilled to share.
Our adventure began at the iconic Black Rocks located in Presque Isle Park, in Marquette, Michigan. This location is a favorite for many due to its stunning natural beauty. As we arrived, the golden hour was just beginning, casting a warm glow over the rugged landscape. Despite never having photos done, John and Kayla were naturals in front of the camera. Their love evident in every touch. We spent the first part of our session exploring the cove, where the water makes a soothing backdrop for our photos.
The highlight of this part of our session was undoubtedly the sunset. We were blessed with one of the most breathtaking sunsets I had seen all summer. The sky transformed into a canvas of vibrant oranges, pinks, and purples. This provided the perfect setting for John and Kayla’s portraits. The way the light played off the water and rocks added a magical touch to the images, capturing the essence of their connection in a way that felt almost otherworldly.
After soaking in the beauty of Black Rocks, we headed to downtown Marquette for the second half of our session. The transition from nature to the urban environment provided a wonderful contrast. This allowed us to capture a different side of John and Kayla’s relationship. Downtown Marquette has a charm all its own, with its historic buildings and lively atmosphere. As night fell, the city lights began to twinkle, creating a romantic ambiance that was perfect for our shoot.
One of the standout moments from our time downtown was the inclusion of a cake featuring John and Kayla’s wedding date. This cute and creative idea added a personal touch to the session and served as a lovely prop for our photos. The glow of the city lights reflected off the cake, highlighting the couple’s excitement for their upcoming wedding in 2025.
We also ventured into the streets, taking advantage of the quieter evening hours to capture some dynamic shots. John and Kayla may have had to playfully dodged the occasional car here and there. These candid moments added an element of fun and spontaneity to the session, showcasing their personalities and the joy they find in each other’s company.
My time with John and Kayla was truly special. Their love for each other is evident in every photo, and their willingness to embrace both the natural beauty of Black Rocks and the vibrant energy of downtown Marquette made this session a joy to capture. I am incredibly excited to be a part of their journey and cannot wait to photograph their wedding in 2025. If their engagement session is any indication, their wedding will be a day filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments.
