A Perfect May Elopement on the Shores of Lake Michigan

As a Michigan elopement photographer based in the stunning Upper Peninsula, I have the privilege of capturing some of the most intimate and beautiful moments in people’s lives. On May 18th, I had the honor of photographing Alayna and Jarod’s special day. A day that was perfect in every way. Their elopement unfolded recently on the serene shores of Lake Michigan, near St. Ignace, at a picturesque venue named Elope Up North.

The Perfect Weather and Setting

The weather on this particular day could not have been better. The sun was shining brightly, casting a warm and inviting glow over the landscape. It was pleasantly warm, with a slight breeze keeping the few bugs at bay—a rare and fortunate occurrence in the Upper Peninsula during late spring. The setting was heavenly, everything one could hope for in a lakeside elopement.

Alayna and Jarod chose to have a small, intimate ceremony, with only their parents in attendance. This decision made their day even more special, as the love and support of their closest family members added an extra layer of warmth to the already beautiful occasion. Alayna and her family, coming from Ohio, have a long history of vacationing in the Upper Peninsula. Their fondness for this part of Michigan made the decision to get married here an easy and heartfelt one.

Capturing the Moment: From Tall Pines to Lakeshore

The ceremony took place against the backdrop of Lake Michigan’s crystal-clear waters. The majestic Mackinaw Bridge visible in the distance, even through the fog. As a photographer, I couldn’t have asked for a more picturesque setting. The tall trees surrounding the property added a touch of rustic charm, creating a perfect blend of natural beauty and serene tranquility.

After the ceremony, we took the opportunity to explore the property. We wandered along the pines, capturing moments of joy and love between Alayna and Jarod. The lakeshore provided a stunning setting for photos. The gentle waves lapping against the shore and the Mackinac Bridge standing proudly in the background. Each click of the camera was capturing a timeless piece of their love story.

The Joy of Alayna and Jarod

One of the highlights of our time together was the sheer joy and excitement that Alayna and Jarod exuded. Their love for each other was evident in every glance, every smile, and every touch. It was a reminder of why I love doing what I do—being able to witness and preserve these genuine moments of connection and happiness.

Following their elopement, Alayna and Jarod planned to spend two weeks in Curtis, Michigan. Which is one of my favorite little towns in the UP. Side note, if you visit, make sure to get some ice cream at Goodales! Their honeymoon plans were simple yet perfect for them: fishing. They intended to spend one week on South Manistique Lake and another week on Big Manistique Lake, immersing themselves in one of their favorite pastimes, fishing.. This laid-back and nature-focused honeymoon was a fitting continuation of their intimate wedding day.

Reflections on a Perfect Day

Reflecting on the day, it’s clear that it was a perfect May elopement in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The combination of beautiful weather, a stunning location, and the genuine love between Alayna and Jarod made it an unforgettable experience. As their photographer, I felt privileged to be a part of their special day and to help them create memories that will last a lifetime.

If you’re considering an elopement in the Upper Peninsula, I can’t recommend it enough. I may be biased, as I am borned and raised a Yooper, but the natural beauty of this area provides a breathtaking backdrop for your special day, and there’s a certain magic in the air that makes every moment feel extraordinary. Whether you’re drawn to the shores of Lake Michigan, the rocky cliff on Lake Superior, or the tranquil lakes of many U.P. towns, the Upper Peninsula offers endless possibilities for creating a wedding day that’s uniquely showcasing you two as a couple.

Alayna and Jarod’s elopement was a beautiful reminder of the simplicity and beauty of love. Their day proves that the power of intimate celebrations and the magic that can be found in the great outdoors is unmatched. It was truly a perfect day, and I’m grateful to have been a part of it.
