Savannah and RJ chose to elope in Hatcher Pass, Alaska, and honestly… it doesn’t get much better than this. They rented a cozy cabin right in Hatcher Pass (you can click here to book – The Cabins – Hatcher Pass Lodge) which made the entire day feel intentional, and incredibly relaxed.
They started their morning together, no rushing, no chaos. Just coffee in the cabin and helping each other get ready. I photograph a lot of elopements, and one of the biggest questions couples ask is whether they should do a first look or get ready together. And truly? I love both. You can even do a combo, get ready together all morning and then do a first look once you’re fully dressed. That’s hands-down my favorite option.
Once they were dressed, we stepped outside the cabin for a few portraits. The views here are unreal, straight-up Alaska wilderness! When you’re staying in shared spaces like this, it’s always important to be respectful of others nearby, keeping things low-key and giving everyone their space.
Then it was time for the ceremony. And let me say this loudly: even if it’s just the two of you, still do a freaking ceremony. Yes. Do it.
Savannah and RJ exchanged private vows, rings, and sealed it with their first kiss. We chose a separate location for the ceremony so they could have complete privacy, and it ended up being perfect. We were the only ones there. Quiet. Peaceful. So dang special.
After the “we’re married” part was official, we hopped in the car and headed to a third location to spend more time exploring and taking portraits. No timeline pressure, no expectations, truly just soaking it all in and letting the day unfold naturally and being in the moment. That is one of my favorite things about elopements, you have time to feel and be in the moment!
Thinking about eloping in Alaska and want someone who’ll help you plan the day and document it in a real, honest way? I’d love to help you dream it up.
