There’s something special about an elopement that puts the focus exactly where it should be. Your story, your love and your people. Hilary + Charlie’s Pictured Rocks Elopement was the perfect blend of intentional moments together, family connection, and Upper Peninsula adventure, which is their favorite place.
They started their day slow and meaningful, getting ready at an Airbnb tucked across the street of Lake Superior. With their three kids and their sweet pup, Yooper, alongside them, it truly felt like a family-first celebration.
Hilary had her hair and makeup done by Fresh Coast Beauty, keeping the vibe natural and effortless. Meanwhile, Charlie was getting ready with help from his oldest daughter, who proudly turned to YouTube, also known as YouTube University in my household haha, to learn how to tie his tie.
Their first look happened right outside their Airbnb, a quiet moment shared between just the two of them. These moments are what make an elopement so memorable.
Then it was time to hit the road and head to Munising, MI for the ceremony. Hilary + Charlie chose Sand Point Beach as their ceremony spot, with Larry from Pictured Rocks Weddings officiating. And would you believe it, we had 84-degree weather in May. Practically unheard of in the Upper Peninsula, especially in May!
A fun story, the day before their wedding, the two of them (plus the kids) built an arch out of driftwood on the beach. It was such a simple and meaningful way to add a personal touch to their Pictured Rocks Elopement.
They exchanged private vows, rings, and a sweet first kiss right there on the sand with Lake Superior as their main backdrop. The sun was shining, the sky had just enough puffy clouds for some drama, and the lake looked like glass. It was truly one of those “pause and take it all in” kind of moments.
After the ceremony, we explored the shoreline a bit, everyone dipped their toes in Lake Superior to cool off on this hot May day. The kids, and Hilary + Charlie laughed, and soaked in the sun. Then we packed up for a quick adventure stop at Wagner Falls, just outside of Munising. The walk in was short, but the cool breeze and mist from the waterfall made it feel like a whole new world.
Back at the Airbnb, we slowed things down again. There was cake, playing with Yooper, and quiet time as a family. Let’s be real, the kids were hungry, haha. That’s the beauty of an elopement, it can be relaxed, adventurous, or a mix of both. Whatever feels right to you.
Hilary and Charlie also took a moment to memorialize someone incredibly important, Hilary’s dad. We drove across the street to snap a few photos with his old truck near Lake Superior. It was emotional, powerful, and such a meaningful way to keep him close on their wedding day.
After a break for dinner, we met up again for sunset photos at the Marquette Historic Lighthouse. Hilary and Charlie love exploring lighthouses, so it was a no brainer we needed to visit here. We explored McCarty’s Cove, climbed around the rocky shoreline, and watched the weather shift. A storm rolled in, the temperature dropped, and the sky turned dramatic. It was the perfect, moody end to their Pictured Rocks Elopement story.
