Alayna + Jarod’s Day at Elope UP North

Spring in Michigan is one of the most unpredictable times here in the U.P.—but when those first signs of green appear after a long winter, it’s such a welcome relief. Most people think of spring as arriving around Easter, but here in the Upper Peninsula, it starts a little later. As a local, I think of spring as May and June. In the middle to end of May, our trees finally start to bloom, the grass starts to get color, also a quiet time. This is what drew Alayna and Jarod to the Upper Peninsula for their elopement in May.

They eloped at Elope UP North in St. Ignace. Surrounded by peaceful woods, Lake Michigan views, and—on a clear day—a glimpse of the Mackinac Bridge. They just had their parents there to celebrate. It was the perfect way to begin this new chapter—laid-back, intentional, and full of love.

Is a Michigan Spring Elopement for you?

If you’re wondering whether spring is the right time for your Michigan elopement, here’s why couples love it:

Spring in the Upper Peninsula (May – June) can be extremely peaceful.

Here’s what makes spring so ideal:

  • Fewer crowds. Many parks and overlooks are still quiet before the summer season kicks in.
  • Mild temps. Warm days, cool nights. Think layers, cozy blankets, and ending your night with a campfire and hot drinks.
  • Nature’s refresh. Budding wildflowers, lilac blooms, and the forest coming back to life—it’s like a soft reset before summer.

🌿 Local tip: June can be one of the buggiest months in the U.P. If you’re not a fan of mosquitoes, spring might not be your season—or come prepared with repellent and netting!

Alayna and Jarod knew they didn’t want a big, traditional wedding. Instead, they chose to focus on what mattered most: celebrating their love with their closest people in a setting that felt true to them.

They exchanged vows surrounded by trees, with Lake Michigan as their backdrop. Their parents were the only guests—an intimate, emotional group that made the whole day feel even more special.

From quiet moments getting ready to walking hand-in-hand through the woods, their day was calm, connected, and entirely them.
