Emily & Maranda – Marquette Michigan Winter Elopement

A Michigan winter elopement offers a quiet beauty that feels both peaceful and adventurous. Emily + Maranda’s elopement day in Marquette was a perfect mix. They had cozy moments, stunning scenery, and time spent with the people who matter most. From their morning at The Landmark Inn to an outdoor ceremony by Lake Superior and an evening by the fire. Their wedding day was a reflection of their love—intentional, personal, and full of meaning.

Getting Ready at The Landmark Inn

The morning was calm, with a touch of fresh snow covering the streets of downtown Marquette. Inside the Landmark Inn, Emily + Maranda added the finishing touches to their wedding attire. Then taking a quiet moment to soak in the excitement of the day ahead.

I love capturing these in-between moments—the way the winter light filters through the window, with views of the Ore Dock in the background. The soft smiles as they get ready, and the small details that make each wedding unique.

A Ceremony by Lake Superior

With everyone bundled up, we set off for their ceremony location—a stretch of Lake Superior’s shoreline, just a short hike through the snowy woods. The shoreline was a deep, icy blue, and just listening to the waves rolling in against the snow-dusted rocks. It was peaceful, with only the sound of the wind and the water as they exchanged vows, and maybe a few other people watching as they were out exploring themselves.

To make their ceremony even more meaningful, they included a knot-tying ritual, where each loved-one added a knot to a cord, symbolizing their love and support. It was a thoughtful way to bring their loved ones into the moment and create something tangible to carry forward in their marriage.

Time to explore during their Michigan Winter Elopement

After the ceremony, we took time to explore the shoreline, capturing portraits that showed both the dramatic landscape and the quiet connection between Emily + Maranda. The contrast of the dark rocks, the snow, and mighty Superior made for some of my favorite images of the day.

To warm up, they rejoined their guests for hot chocolate in custom mugs—a simple but personal touch that fit the day perfectly.

After we finished visiting with all the loved-ones, we started our hike back to the vehicles.

A moment just for the two of them

One of the best parts of elopements is the ability to take intentional time together. Emily + Maranda wanted a moment away from the group, so we headed to a second location—a stretch of tall pine trees where the lake peeked through the background. Here, they read personal vows to each other, danced in the snow, and simply took in the day.

These pauses—the chance to breathe, reflect, and be fully present—are what make elopements so special. There’s no rush, no distractions, just time to focus on each other.

Cozy Coffee Stop & Evening Celebration

As the afternoon turned to evening, Emily + Maranda made an impromptu stop at Contrast Coffee for a warm drink and a chance to unwind before the final part of their day. The laid-back atmosphere gave them a moment to reflect before heading back to the Landmark Inn for their evening celebration.

Back at the Landmark inn, they were greeted by their loved ones, ready to relax and enjoy the evening. They shared drinks in the cocktail lounge, cut their cake, and spent time by the fireplace, closing out their wedding day in a way that felt effortless and true to them.
